Petron Partners with UPLB for Carbon Sequestration Study

Reforestation Impact Study

Petron, through its foundation, collaborates with UPLB to assess carbon sequestration in its reforestation sites under the Puno ng Buhay program.

Petron, through Petron Foundation, Inc. (PFI), is strengthening its commitment to managing its environmental impact through a partnership with the University of the Philippines Los Baños-College of Forestry and Natural Resources (UPLB-CFNR) and the UPLB Foundation Inc., engaging the latter to conduct a science-based assessment of sequestered carbon in adopted areas under Petron’s Puno ng Buhay reforestation program.

The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on January 7 was led by (from left) PFI Executive Director Mia S. Delos Reyes, UPLB Foundation Inc. Executive Director Enrico P. Supangco, UPLB Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr., Ph.D., and UPLB-CFNR Dean Marlo D. Mendoza at the UPLB campus.

This partnership will bring together a team of experts from UPLB specializing in Forest Carbon Analysis, Flora and Fauna, GIS/Remote Sensing, Socioeconomics, and Mangrove Silviculture. The study will initially focus on Petron’s mangrove sites in Davao, Roxas, and Bulacan spanning 55 hectares.
